The purpose of this project is to delve into heritage and observe design through the medium of food. By showcasing a food native to one's country of origin, the viewer can get a better understanding of design from another country in a modern American sense.
Kompot is a project that observes my own personal cultural identity. My ancestors mainly came from Poland and one food item of Polish heritage is kompot. Kompot is a drink that can be served hot or cold, which also has a dual purpose of preserving fruits and nuts during the colder seasons. There are only three ingredients that make up Kompot: fruits and/or nuts, sugar, and water. My reasoning behind choosing kompot is because my grandmother used to preserve and make kompot year round, especially in the winter. The poster demonstrates the freshness of fruits used to create the drink, while processed sugar "dots" swirl in a spiral to demonstrate the particles while preparing the drink. The poster serves as a colorful infographic detailing the history of the drink, where it's ingredients come from, and as a means to create said drink. The project includes poster and package design. |
